Taron Harutunyan: A Life Transformed by a Single Post About 42 Yerevan

When Taron Harutunyan came back from his military service in 2020, he was thinking of becoming a programmer but wasn’t sure where to start. He had so many questions: how was he going to be able to afford it? Would he be able to find a program with a flexible schedule? Which coding program was prestigious enough to stand out from the crowd?

Little did he know that he would find the answer to all his questions after coming across an Instagram post about 42 Yerevan. That one post would change his life, save him money, give him invaluable experience, expand his network, and land him a job as a junior C++ developer at one of the world leaders in game development, Sperasoft.

“When I first learned about 42 Yerevan, I thought it was suitable for me because I would get to learn on my own time with my peers. I also had more time to focus on learning because I didn’t have to save money to pay for tuition.”

And focus he did.

When he first participated in the piscine, the intensive 4-week trial period at 42 Yerevan, Taron didn’t know anything about programming but was committed to learning everything he could. He eventually realized that the best mentor would be the students learning alongside him. So he decided to ask for help from other students and made it through to the Core Curriculum.

Soon after starting the Core Curriculum, his network of mentors and professionals included a whole new group of motivated individuals and tech companies. Soon, Taron got to work in the field of his dreams: game development. He started with an internship in game design at Noor Games. After gaining experience there, he landed an internship at Sperasoft which ended up turning into a full-time job.

He is now a Junior C++ developer at Sperasoft!

But coding isn’t the only thing he learned here: “I learned so much: data structures, networking, C and C++, as well as problem solving, communication, research skills, time management and most importantly, how to trust myself – that was invaluable. I also learned teamwork and how your peers can serve as your best mentors.”
